SHAWANO, Wis. — Genex Cooperative, Inc. and DeLaval Inc. have signed a joint marketing agreement. Under the agreement, Genex representatives will assist in marketing DeLaval Activity Systems, which monitor cows’ activity helping dairy producers know when cows are ready to be inseminated.

Mayfield Farm, in Aurora, Oregon, continues to make strides in sustainable food production. The 450-head dairy is robotically milking 50 of its cows with one DeLaval Voluntary Milking System (VMS™). This is the state’s first farm to install a VMS unit, and the organic dairy producer is considering expanding the solution to accommodate the rest of its herd.

The DeLaval LS-01 “low slip” liner is expanding to include three additional high performing liners designed to work with a variety of milking operations. The new liners are engineered to slip less offering important benefits to producers such as improved milk flow and speed, fewer parlor routine disruptions, and better mastitis prevention and somatic cell counts.

DeLaval has received orders from the dairy programs at two higher education institutions for the supply of its innovative milking solutions. Canada’s University of Saskatchewan and New York’s Alfred State College have each opted for one DeLaval VMS™ (Voluntary Milking System) and numerous herd management solutions. The move further signifies university officials’ confidence in DeLaval – especially as technology plays a greater role in the development of the dairy industry.

Dr. Mario Lopez, an employee of DeLaval, was recently appointed to the board of the National Mastitis Council (NMC). In this position, Dr. Lopez will help steer the directives of this professional organization devoted to reducing mastitis and enhancing milk quality. The duration of his appoint is three years (ending January 2015).
